Will Smith & Warner Bros Settle Lawsuit over ‘King Richard’ – Biopic To Release In 2021

‘King Richard’, starring Will Smith as Richard Williams has been in controversy way before its release. The biopic on Venus and Serena Williams’ father will star Will Smith in lead and will be produced by Overbook Entertainment, Warner Bros., Richard Williams, and more. As per the lawsuit over ‘King Richard’, the production companies, TW3 Entertainment and Power Move Multimedia are the rightful owners of Richard’s story.

According to TW3 and Power Move, they bought the rights to Richard’s memoir from Richard’s son, Chavoita Lesane. The rights for the memoir, ‘Black and White: The Way I See It’ was sold for $10,000 by Chavoita Lesane. However, allegedly, Richard has sold the rights to his life and book to the team ‘King Richard’.

The story does not end here. As per TW3 and Power Move, after purchasing the rights to the memoir, they worked on the project. And eventually, after months of work, they discussed their plan with Warner Bros. So allegedly, Warner Bros. was well aware of the legal rights and yet decided to proceed without crediting TW3 and Power Move.
