2020 is a great year that marks many significant changes in terms of inclusiveness. Disney’s ‘The Owl House’ finally introduces a lead protagonist who is bisexual. This is not the first time when Disney has shows characters from LGBTQ+ community. However, it is the first time that a LGBTQ+ character is in the lead role.
Luz Noceda is a regular 14-year-old teenager who decides to have not-so-regular life. She journeys to another world to become a witch on ‘The Owl House’. Talking about Luz’s sexuality, Luz was initially shown to be attracted towards men. But, as the story unfolds, it is revealed that she feels for women too. Luz develops a relationship with Amity with whom, she goes to the Grom (read: prom).
‘The Owl House’ creator Dana Terrace cleared that it was definitely a representation of LGBTQ+ relationship. She revealed that initially, some of the Disney’s senior members were not in the favor of casting queer kids in the series. However, Dana being a bisexual herself, was adamant on her request.
Finally, her persistence paid off and she was allowed to cast LGBTQ+ kids in ‘The Owl House‘. She said that after decision was made and the final result was executed, the same superiors were very happy and impressed.
