She event uploaded the snap of her private message on her Instagram story for her audience to see. In the message, Selena is asking Mark and Sheryl to stop the hate speech on social media.
Selena Gomez is one of most influential stars of Hollywood. She is one of the top 10 people on Instagram (owned by Facebook) with the highest number of followers – 193 million. She has around 77 million followers on Facebook. So, obviously, her request to Zuckerberg and Sandberg made an impact on her audience too.
The message read that Facebook and Instagram are the social media platforms being used to spread hate, racism, wrong information, and bigotry. She asked the help of the maker and runners of these platforms to do something about it. She asked them to cancel groups and users who are spreading negativity.
#StopHateforProfit is a social media movement started to stop spread of hate. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Mark Rufflo, Jamie Foxx, Katy Perry and more promoted the movement by blacking out their profiles. Apart from being wrong and harassing, these hate speech can make a difference to the upcoming elections as well. It’s time that it stops.
