The hard-core ‘The Muppets’ fans would be extremely happy as the franchise has returned with its revamped version. The brand new series Muppets Now is produced by The Muppets Studio and aired for the first time on Disney+. The show is great for all the kids out there and released on July 31, 2020. The series is divided into three segments and the show has a lighthearted take on everything relatable.
Muppets Now is different than all the Muppets series we have ever seen. One obvious reason is that we are living in 2020 but also it has many more layers.
The show has an uncanny resemblance to the present time and its unscripted sketches are a breath of fresh air.
Muppets Now Review
Muppets Now is definitely a major upgrade for the franchise. The show is very relatable to the kids of today’s time. They are not going to look at the show and wonder what the Paleolithic era these creatures belong to. The show is the representation of the modern lifestyle that we are used to. Interestingly, even the show was filmed almost a year ago, the scenarios are similar to our pandemic days.
There’re video calls, emails exchange, DMs, and all virtual mode of contact that we are getting habituated to in this quarantine. The way the work is executed in the series reminds people of their work from home situations. The six-episode series will hit you hard is a great reboot of the original The Muppets franchise.
The segments are realistic too if you think about it deeply. Reality shows where hosts ask awkward personal questions to the contestants are not new for us. And, the same is sometimes shown Pepe’s game show. Miss Piggy’s beauty segment (which is harmless, to be honest) can be a representation of today’s social media world and its self-centered attitude.
Muppets Now Premise
Muppets Now has chosen the right time to enter the television industry again. By choosing an online streaming platform, Muppets Now has made a smart move by targeting its exclusive audience – the kids! The show will be mostly watched by the children while they hold smartphones in their free time. The parents will be more than happy to take a breath of peace.
Muppets Now is divided into three segments – talk show, game show, and a cooking show. Miss Piggy, who could have been a fashion influencer in real, is the host of ‘Lifesty With Miss Piggy. She talks about fashion & lifestyle and herself. Beaker and Prof. Honeydew conduct science experiments featuring A.I. Kermit hosts ‘Mup Close & Personal’ interview show that’s disturbed by fellow Muppets.
Pepe the Prawn run his game show that even after Scooter’s suggestions, is always messed up. Beverly Plume runs his cooking show, ‘Okey Dokey’, the one show that is a complete look alike of most of the YouTube shows. And not to forget, the series also stars celebrities in fancy guests roles. Taye Diggs and Linda Cardellini have graced the episodes and we loved it!
The Muppets History
The television industry is not new to the Muppet shows. ‘Muppet Show’ was the original from the genre and released in 1976 and ran for 5 years. It was theatrically staged with a lot of cliché puns. ‘Muppets Tonight’ was the reboot than ran from 1997 to 1998 and was an upgrade from theatre setting to a studio setting.
In 2015, ‘The Muppets’ tried to bring back the nostalgia by Miss Piggy being the center of attraction. However, the show was a poor attempt of merging ‘The Office’ with ’30 Rock’ and failed to impress the audience. The midlife crisis and jokes surrounding them was a theme that did not seem funny to many kids out there (understandably). Although the right touch of nostalgia was present, the show needed more.
