People love to hate television characters. The most disliked female TV characters have received more hate from the audience than they deserved. In fact, their characters even made the audience hate them in real life! And to be honest, that is going way too far! The actors were just playing characters after all. And, if those characters became the most disliked female TV characters of all time, then maybe they were bang on with their acting!
We have a list of the most disliked female TV characters of all time along with the reasons. And to be honest, the reasons don’t make much sense at all!
Janice From ‘Friends’
Making on top of the list of the most disliked female TV characters of all time is Janice Hosenstein from Friends. First of all, let us be honest and admit that people would not have hated her so hard had it not been for her voice. Her iconic nasal ‘ohh-myy-gawd’ annoyed people as much as it made them laugh.
She cheated on Chandler, which was out of line, but we all can agree that we don’t hate her for getting back with her husband. On the contrary, from her point of view, she was stuck with a bunch of illogical people!
Karen From The Office
Karen was smart, beautiful, and kind. She was an excellent girlfriend who understood Jim Halpert and his sense of humor. She even stayed by his side when he confessed to having feelings for Pam. She did not fit into the category of jealous or insecure, which was amazing given the stereotypes on the show.
She left her original workspace for Jim and stayed wonderfully cordial with Pam, even she had no reason to. Then why do we hate her? That is because she was between Pam and Jim and nobody should come between Jim & Pam! Karen sure did receive hate for all the illogical reasons!
Guinevere Beck From You
This name is quite controversial. Guinevere Beck was not at all perfect and was far from anything perfect! But here’s the thing – she was better than a psychopath stalker who killed her to save himself. Guinevere was not a talented writer, she was a cheater, and a selfish girlfriend. We agree that she deserved some criticism but not so much to be on the most disliked female TV character.
The entire point of her character was to showcase someone broken and flawed – like how some people are in reality. Honestly, it was Joe’s psychotic perception that made Beck seem so negative.
Elena Gilbert From The Vampire Diaries
While the world was divided between Stefen and Damon, the person who suffered the most was Elena. Half of the people did not like her for being with Stefen while half of them didn’t appreciate her for choosing Damon. As a result, she made it to the most disliked female TV characters ever! Her selfish behavior was also a reason why fans criticized her character.
But, in her defense – have you seen the other characters on the show? They all are sinners (without any exaggeration) and that makes Elena a saint in front of them all.
Emily From Friends
Just like Karen, we hate Emily to come between Ross and Rachel. And also, to ask Ross to leave Rachel forever. She seemed like the jealous and insecure wife and that made her on the list of the most disliked female TV characters of all time. Though in her defense, Ross did give her all the reason to be insecure. Imagine your husband calling the name of his ex-girlfriend at your wedding!
Betty Draper From Mad Men
Betty Draper is on the list of the most disliked female TV characters because the women in today’s time cannot relate to her. Her husband kept cheating on her constantly but she did not confront him for the longest. She did not take a stand for herself for the longest time and took out her frustration on others.
She seemed cold and unhappy but she was portraying the injustice women had to suffer back then!
Mellie Grant From Scandal
Mellie Grant received the hate that she absolutely did not deserve. Fans of Olivia and Fitz considered Mellie to be selfish and arrogant for using Olivia and demeaning her. But here’s the thing – Mellie supported her husband even when she knew he’s a cheater and his father is a devil. Fitz played with her emotions and her relationships many times but she kept a brave face.
Maybe her strong demeanor made her to the list of the most disliked female TV characters of all time.
